Solar house, Darmstadt (Darmstadt, Germany, 2007)

  • Type of project:
  • Integration type:

Darmstadt University of Technology won the international “Solar Decathlon 2007” competition for the most attractive, energy-efficient solar house with this project.

In addition to monocrystalline cells on the roof, the project used newly developed PV louvres. These are thin-film modules mounted on wooden louvres on all sides of the house except for north. In order to further improve yield in sunlight, the louvres automatically track the optimum position of the sun. In this way, in addition to the roof, the house has a large PV surface that is always at the ideal angle to the sun (BAUNETZ ONLINE-DIENST, SOLARDECATHLON.DE ).
